ISOLUX

The ISOLUX name refers to an evolution on the technical side of the project: rather than disposable digital media projectors with ethically and environmentally iffy supply chains and design life expectancies, the new works will be projected with ISOLUX projectors, designed and built by the artist with durable and/or easily replaceable/upgrade-able electronics, light sources, and optics, to provide for works that are consistently durable, and effectively archival.

ISOLUX prototype in progress
First-generation ISOLUX prototype under construction—100 Watts, 24 Volts, 50 mm. f2.0 tilt-shift lens
Test projection, ca. 3m. tall x 4m. wide; note that all ambient light is provided by the projector’s “spill” reflected from the room’s ceiling.

The projectors are under ongoing development for different scales and circumstances of installation, including rear-projection to address the street (there are currently four of them at Josée Bienvenu, 529 West 20th Street NYC) night and day, and more powerful units for large-scale outdoor installations.
